The dealer range is $320 to $480. Both numbers include the cut emergency blade, the proximity pairing to the vehicle, and a verification drive. If your CR-V is the base LX from those years, you have a cheaper bladed transponder key instead, $140 to $260 from a locksmith.
If your CR-V is a 2012 to 2016 RM, it uses a four-button remote head key with no push-button start, $140 to $260 from a locksmith. The blade and the remote buttons are one piece, so a lost key means both cutting and programming. The 2023 and newer sixth-generation RS is the most expensive CR-V key to replace. Honda moved this generation to a HITAG-AES (4A) chip on the KR5TP-4 fob, a newer encryption than the fifth-gen KR5V2X. The CR-V shares a smart-key family with the Civic and Pilot
From 2017, the CR-V uses the same KR5V2X smart-fob family as the 2016 to 2021 Pilot and the 2018 to 2021 Civic. That is good news for CR-V owners: any locksmith who covers those Hondas can cover your CR-V, and aftermarket OEM-spec blanks are widely available. The programming protocol and the immobiliser chipset are shared, so the locksmith pool is broad and the labour rate is competitive.
The fobs are still vehicle-specific.
