What is the FCC ID and why does it matter?
The FCC ID is a small alphanumeric code printed on the back of the fob (e.g. KR5V2X). It identifies the exact electronics inside. Two fobs with different FCC IDs that look identical may not be compatible. Always quote the FCC ID, year, make, and model when ordering online or asking for a quote.

Does a new fob need to be cut, or just programmed?
Smart proximity fobs contain an emergency mechanical blade that has to be cut to your specific lock. The locksmith does this from your VIN or by impressioning the door cylinder. Programming pairs the electronics. A complete replacement always involves both steps unless you are reusing your old emergency blade in a new fob shell.

Will the old fob still work after a new one is paired?
