Nissan Rogue Key Replacement Cost: $110 to $520 by Year

The Rogue is Nissan's best-selling vehicle in the US, and it turns up constantly in our dispatch log. This page walks every Rogue generation from the first-gen T31 in 2008 to the current third-gen T33, with locksmith and dealer pricing, FCC IDs, and the trim-level split that changes the bill. The ranges are our dispatch-model estimates, not vendor quotes, and the provenance section lists the inputs.

Cost by model year

Rogue key cost is set by which generation your model year falls in, and on the 2008 to 2020 cars, by your trim. A 2012 Rogue higher trim uses a T31 Intelligent Key at $160 to $280 from a locksmith, while the base S bladed key is cheaper at $110 to $200. A 2017 Rogue (T32) Intelligent Key runs $190 to $330. A 2021 or 2024 Rogue (T33) uses the newer KR5TXPZ1 Intelligent Key at $260 to $400. The newer the car, the higher-spec the fob and the bigger the bill. Find your year in the table, then read the generation note below it.

The Rogue we replace keys for most is the 2014 to 2020 T32, where the KR5S180144106 Intelligent Key is standard on SV and SL. The locksmith range for that fob is $190 to $330. The dealer range is $280 to $430. Both numbers include the cut emergency blade, the proximity pairing to the vehicle, and a verification drive. The base S trim on this generation kept a bladed transponder key with a separate remote, which is cheaper at $120 to $220 from a locksmith.

If your Rogue is a 2021 to 2026 T33, the Intelligent Key is standard on every trim, so there is no cheaper base-trim key to fall back on. The 3-button fob is FCC KR5TXPZ1 (part 285E3-5MR1B); trims with a power liftgate and remote start use a 4 or 5-button variant. Locksmith range $260 to $400, dealer range $360 to $520. This fob is not backward-compatible with older Rogue body-control modules, so confirm the locksmith carries current Nissan T33 coverage before booking.

The 2008 to 2013 T31 is the trim-trap generation on Rogue. The base S used a bladed transponder ignition key with a separate keyless remote, the cheapest Rogue key to replace at $110 to $200 from a locksmith. Higher trims (SL, and SV from the 2011 refresh) got the earlier Nissan Intelligent Key (FCC CWTWBU729) with push-button start, which runs $160 to $280. A locksmith who quotes from year alone will misprice a T31, so state your trim and whether the car has a start button.

The first US Rogue used a bladed transponder ignition key on base trims, with a separate keyless-entry remote. Higher trims (SL, and SV from the 2011 refresh) offered the Nissan Intelligent Key proximity fob with push-button start (FCC CWTWBU729). Check whether you turn a key in the column or press a start button before you quote it, the two keys price differently.

The volume Rogue. The Intelligent Key (FCC KR5S180144106, part 285E3-4CB1A / 285E3-4CB6A) is standard on SV and SL; the base S kept a bladed transponder key with a separate remote on many builds. The proximity fob shares its family with the Altima and Maxima of the same era, so locksmith tool coverage is strong. A late 2019-2020 build may carry the newer KR5TXN-family fob, confirm the FCC printed on the back.

GEN-T33

2021 - 2026 / Third-gen Rogue (T33)

FCC: KR5TXPZ1 (P/N 285E3-5MR1B)

Key type

Intelligent Key (smart proximity fob) standard across the lineup

Locksmith

$260 - $400

Dealer

$360 - $520

Intelligent Key with push-button start is standard on every T33 trim. The 3-button fob is FCC KR5TXPZ1 (part 285E3-5MR1B); trims with power-liftgate and remote start use a 4 or 5-button variant (KR5TXPZ1 285E3-5MR3B, or KR5TXPZ3 285E3-6RA5A). This generation is not backward-compatible with older Rogue body-control modules, so it needs current Nissan tool coverage. Confirm your locksmith carries it for your year before booking.

Section 02 / Trim split

The base S and the Intelligent Key trims take different keys

On the 2008 to 2020 Rogue, the single biggest thing that changes your bill is trim. The base S came with a bladed transponder ignition key that you physically turn, paired with a separate keyless remote, and that is the cheapest Rogue key to replace. The SV and SL trims got the Nissan Intelligent Key: a proximity fob with a push-button start and no key slot. That fob costs more to buy and program.

Before you ring a locksmith, look at your dashboard. A start button and a slot to insert the fob in an emergency means you have the Intelligent Key. A key you turn in the column means you have the base transponder key. Quote the wrong one and the price will be off by $50 to $150. From the 2021 T33, this distinction disappears, the Intelligent Key is standard on every trim. See the cost-by-make guide for the rest of the Nissan lineup.

Section 03 / The dispatch script

What to say when you ring an auto locksmith

“Hi, I need a replacement Intelligent Key for a 2022 Nissan Rogue SV, FCC ID KR5TXPZ1. I have the VIN. I have one working key and want a spare. Can you cut and program at my location? What is the all-in price including programming, no extras? Do you accept customer-supplied OEM-spec fobs?”
  • State the trim and whether the car has push-button start.
  • Lock in a single all-in figure.
  • Confirm coverage of your specific year for Nissan Rogue.
  • For a 2021 or newer T33, confirm KR5TXPZ1 programming.
  • Get the quote in SMS for a paper trail.

Section 04 / Provenance

Where the numbers come from

Ranges are dispatch-model estimates built from the inputs above, not vendor quotes. Actual pricing varies by ZIP, trim, and whether you keep a working key. Confirm the all-in figure with your locksmith before booking.

Rogue shortcut: the CR2032 battery in the Intelligent Key lasts about two to three years. When the range drops and the dash flashes a low-key-battery warning, swap the battery, do not replace the fob. Battery swap guide.

Frequently asked

  1. 01

    How much is a key for a 2012, 2017, 2021, or 2024 Nissan Rogue?

A 2012 Rogue (T31) higher trim uses an Intelligent Key, $160 to $280 from a locksmith, while the base S bladed transponder key is cheaper at $110 to $200. A 2017 Rogue (T32) Intelligent Key runs $190 to $330 from a locksmith or $280 to $430 at a dealer. A 2021 and a 2024 Rogue (T33) both use the newer KR5TXPZ1 Intelligent Key, $260 to $400 from a locksmith or $360 to $520 at a dealer. Match your model year and trim to the generation table above for the exact range.

  2. 02

How much does a Nissan Rogue key replacement cost in 2026?

Between $110 and $520 depending on year, trim, and channel. A 2008 to 2013 base S bladed transponder key is the cheapest, $110 to $200 from a locksmith. A 2021 to 2026 T33 Intelligent Key is the priciest at a dealer, $360 to $520. The most common Rogue job, a 2014 to 2020 T32 Intelligent Key, runs $190 to $330 with a mobile locksmith.

  3. 03

Does the base Rogue S use a cheaper key than the SV or SL?

Yes, on the 2008 to 2020 generations. The base S kept a bladed transponder ignition key with a separate keyless remote, which is cheaper to cut and program ($110 to $220 from a locksmith). The SV and SL trims got the Nissan Intelligent Key with push-button start and a proximity fob ($160 to $330). The quickest way to tell which you have is whether the dashboard has a start button or the column has a key slot. From the 2021 third generation, the Intelligent Key is standard across the lineup.

  4. 04

Can a locksmith program a Nissan Rogue Intelligent Key?

Yes, for every Rogue generation. Nissan does not lock programming to dealers, and Rogue coverage is well supported by mainstream locksmith tools (AutoProPad, Smart Pro, OBDStar). The one thing to confirm is the 2021 and newer T33, whose KR5TXPZ1 fob is not backward-compatible with older body-control modules and needs current Nissan tool coverage. Most auto locksmiths carry it, but ask specifically about T33 Rogue programming for your year before you book.

  5. 05

Is the Rogue Intelligent Key the same as the Altima or Sentra fob?

They share a platform but are not interchangeable. The 2014 to 2018 Rogue and Altima both used the KR5S180144106 / KR5S180144014 Intelligent Key family, so a locksmith who covers one covers the other. But the internal pairing data written to the fob and the emergency blade cut are vehicle-specific: a Rogue fob will not start an Altima and vice versa. The 2021+ T33 Rogue moved to its own KR5TXPZ1 fob, different again from the Altima's KR5TXN1.

  6. 06

What is the cheapest way to get a spare Rogue key?

On the 2021 to 2026 T33, order an OEM-spec aftermarket Intelligent Key (FCC KR5TXPZ1) from a Nissan-focused parts site for $60 to $150, then pay a mobile locksmith $60 to $130 to cut the emergency blade and program the fob. Total runs $120 to $280 vs $360 to $520 at a dealer. Confirm the FCC ID matches your existing fob exactly. Program a spare while you still have a working key, all-keys-lost costs more.

  7. 07

What if I lose all my Rogue keys?

The locksmith or dealer reads the immobiliser code from the Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS), decodes the door lock to cut a new blade, then programs every key on the car from scratch. Add $80 to $200 to the standard quote. On the 2008 to 2020 cars, all-keys-lost is doable at your driveway by a well-equipped mobile locksmith, no tow needed. On the 2021 and newer T33, confirm the locksmith carries current Nissan tool coverage before they roll out, because the fob is not compatible with older modules.
